The Benefit of International Trade
On the eve of that politician's election, workers who had been employed in industries that sold things to foreigners would initially be thrown out of work. When wages and prices adjusted, they would eventually be rehired by firms that were sendin te selling goods and services to people in their own country. The international trade fosters the division of labor where workers in each country can specialize in their comparative advantage. So their real wages are higher with the existence of international trade.
