The Neoliberal Approach to Poverty
There was stagnating economic growth, high inflation and a belief then started to develop that welfare state wasn't really fulfilling its promise. This was something that was put forward, specifically by neoliberal thinkers. Neoliberal ideology has been so powerful since the 1980s, it's permeated every area of British social life. They were seen to featherbed the idol, encourage a dependency culture.
