The Dangers of Slowing Down AI
Do we ever successfully slow down things that we're actually dangerous? Yeah. Ah as in you mean like maybe- That's fine I don't mind everyone being overly cautious right? Right um but does it not also work the other way or something of like oh a lot of people who want to slow down AI also think that a bunch of like good things have historically been slowed down and so on. The Asilomar Conference on Recombinant DNA is an interesting case study where some scientists were called for moratorium after they put cancer causing genes into E. coli, which was convenient at the time. They did have a moratorium in spite of many of the scientists being opposed against them
