The king had chosen to ally himself more with the nobility against the commoners. The nobles tended to favor maintaining the traditional prerogatives of monarchyin form as opposed to commoner backgrounds. And so this idea started to take shape. This sort of informal terminology started to form, where people who wanted to maintain traditional social institutions were to the right. People who wanted to abolish those institutions and replace them with a republic modelled on, say, the ancient roman republic or the italian city state republics, they sat to the left. It became a sort of common metaphor, ok? Now, other related questions that came up in this assembly included voting rights. Would non property holders be
