Is All Mental Illness Functional or Dysfunctional?

The default paradigm, at least since the 1970s has been that there is some kind of brain dysfunction underlying your depression or anxiety. The idea of mental illness being perfectly working functions is it's pretty libertoy for people who have been told their entire lives that their disorder is something bad or something well with them.
