The History of Freemasonry
By about 1800, Prince Hall was an extremely influential figure among free black men and in American culture at large. Black Freemasonry was sort of exploding. Even though these white Masonic lodges, these American Masonic lodges did not consider the Africa Lodge technically a part of their Masonic system. They sort of sought as this outsider fringe group. And even just that alone is a little bit, you know, unsettling.
