The Limits of Bathymetric Lidar
Bathymetric lidar is quite limited in terms of its penetration depth. The energy in the laser pulse runs out and it's scattered by suspended sediment or fish. So the energy doesn't get back to the aircraft and the sensor receive it, so it is limited by depth. After this podcast episode, I'll share a link with you to a project called the Ocean of Things. We're basically using sea life as sensor platforms.
