The History of Great Zimbabwe
Great Zimbabwe is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It's one of about 150 major stone ruin sites in Zimbabwe and Mozambique. The word Zimbabwe means the house in stone, though it's also sometimes translated as sacred house or royal house. Although Great Zimbabwe itself is a ruin now, Shona people still living in the area do view it as a sacred site and use it for spiritual purposes.
