How to Add an Umlaut to a Noun
Most nouns which end in the letters e, r, e, l or e, n, don't change in the plural. These are usually masculine or nuter nouns such as sima and dast simma. But some words do have a little change involving the first vowel in the word. This is called an umlaut - it looks like two dots placed above the vowel. You can only add it to the letters a, o and you when writing german. For most feminine nouns, you have to add the letter n or e n depending on what the word ends with.
