Machine learning is about finding the point of highest probability in an information landscape. But sometimes you need to go off and explore and jump somewhere else. A lot of these models run on this principle of gradient descent, which is finding local minimum. It can essentially zero in on things and then just sit there for a while. We've all experience the case that spotifi keeps playing artists that sort of sound the same or netfliks keeps recommending movies that a sort of the same. And actually what you want is, occasionally you want out there thing, an out ther recommendation of an artist.
