I think that's such a good question because I'm going to like, I guess kind of answer it in two ways. One is the way in which being a lesbian in the 70s could sort of override your whiteness in a certain way. The mainstreaming of gay and lesbian life has made it such that, you know, white lesbians can very easily live without encountering those kinds of oppressive structures. So there's an attachment to this moment in which you could still claim to be outside of whiteness.
