The Different Metaphors of Anger

We're not talking about as george said earlier's one-off metaphors for the most part we're talking about a core metaphor that generates an entire collection of expressions. Many image sources may map to the same target so when we talk about conceptual metaphors we have the source which is that typically sort of physical thing that we're going to use as a metaphor for the target. We're going to talk a lot about anger today because people like to study that and in in all the different languages that i've run across in researching this episode i've seen anger as heat a wild animal an opponent a burden insanity a weapon an illness and food which you either consume or spit out.
