Like is the most rapidly expanding type of like in English. It allows us to express sort of more subjective sensibility when we're expressing what someone was saying. We see that this comes partly with the change in our narrative style over the last sort of middle 20th century where we start to provide a evaluative comment about what we were thinking when we tell stories.
