The Sublimation of Desire

The objects of desire that drive us are in points of imaginary fixation. Drive reverses this process moving from objects to what this actually is, which is an opening. The sublimatory process of finding ordinary objects to substitute for the das ding,. the thing that has been asked from your life is a humiliating endeavor. It's not that they are elevated to the level of das ding it's that when you push on those objects, they're rooted in das ding.
