Alexa left Northwestern Mutual and started a New York-based venture fund, Inspired Capital. To kick it off, she set up more advice from a trusted friend. Penny Pritzker was the Presidential Ambassadors for Global Entrepreneurship under the Obama administration. Alexa and Penny launched Inspired Capital in 2018 along with two other longtime friends,. Lucy DeLand of Paperless Post and Mark Batson of Northwestern Mutual. Their first $200 million fund was announced in 2019 and they closed the second $281 million fund in 2021.
