Do Surgical Dressings Really Work?
A Cochrane review of surgical dressings during Ville 2016 concluded that there is no good evidence to support one kind of dressing over any other kind. Compared to no dressing at all, dressings don't seem to prevent infections, improve scarring or improve pain control. But again, only three studies, so ton of uncertainty here. Dressings do add cost and they do add inconvenience and they do hide a wound that might be getting infected.
