Is There a Gap That Produces Desire?
Lacanian theory is that there's a fundamental gap that produces desire. Some some branches of psychology seem to assume that there's no gap right? We'll just keep talking and eventually there'll be perfect understanding, he says. Lacan talks about the mirror stage where the child looks in the mirror and recognizes himself for herself or itself themselves but at the same time it sees a backward image of a person who's transformed by recognition in the mirror. It gives us a level of humility not that Lacan was very humbly not quite arrogant but nonetheless there are contradictions in everyone according to him.
