How to Give Writing Feedback to Students
I highlight errors on exams quite a bit. I will circle things I'm finding that are strong, even if their task was to write an entire sentence. Every once in a while, I'll actually pause on giving feedback for almost an entire week and it just sort of lets students work. If there's like major gaps in understanding, then I'm going topause and work individually with those students. It's very similarly to teaching little children how to speak. For example, I have a two-year-old and if she says, you know, we're outside and she says, oh, the birdie flew away or fly it away,. I might repeat it back to her and say
