The Athenian victory at Sinnohsema had a much larger impact. It came at a time when the Athenian democracy had been replaced by an oligarchy. Athens severely lacked the financial resources to rebuild another fleet. In all likelihood, a heavy defeat and the destruction of their fleet would have ended the war on that day. Instead, they won a victory that not only allowed them to press on, but one that had a significant impact on their confidence in morale.
