The History of Slavery
Slavery was a necessary ingredient to build the early colonial economy. But later on, it stopped being profitable in this colonial context. And that's part of the reason why slavery ended up being abolished. It would have been inefficient for poor white people to be brought over as stitute labors with no rights.
