The Role of Efferocytosis in Lung Heat
Legionella has been found to impede efferocytosis by preventing that phosphatidylserine from being expressed on the surface of neutrophils. Other organisms, including salmonella, mycobacterium tuberculosis and Legionella again, that inhibit apoptosis itself. And that then limits the ability for macrophages to engage in efferocyTosis. It really all of the trickiest lung infections really, really seem to focus on the macrophages and not so much the neutrophil.
