CRISPR Cas9 - What Is It?
I got into CRISPR Cas9 because of my relationship with Alexis. I never really thought about DNA before. In my studies, it was always small molecules. And then I realized slowly over time that sort of as you're lying in bed trying to fall asleep and your mind's really going... It just so serendipitously happened that one round of engineering for several rounds of engineering for a new type of base editor became the right thing to do. So when I first evolved the editor, it still had a specificity and it had a narrow window which is what led me to this project.
