Introduction
Pan Am was founded as a shell company by two US Air Force officers in 1927. Henry Hap Arnold, Carl Spats, and John Juey were worried about German-owned Colombian air carrier Skata. The men submitted a prospectus for Pan American even though they didn't even have a plane or landing rights in Cuba. Three groups had played an intricate game, trying to outmaneuver one another to gain the ultimate advantage.
