The Demolishment of the Roxy Theater

The Roxy is not the only theater that this happened to no in fact so many the others we just talked about faced a similar fate. The Fox Theater in downtown Brooklyn would be demolished in 1970 and replaced by an incredibly ugly six-story office building for Con Ed. Some got repurposed you know like the regent where Roxy got his start up at 116th and 7th it closed in 1963 as a movie theater but it was then purchased by the first Corinthian Baptist Church which still operates it today as a church. Still others just completely escaped the wrecking ball in 1978 for example Rockefeller Center announced that it would close Radio City musical  then set off a huge public campaign
