How Did You Come Up With These Figures?
Australia's complete welfare system costs $6 billion and provides $45 billion in benefits compared to super, which costs $36 billion. In the super system, we have essentially an army of 55,000 people. And that system as a whole currently puts $40 billion into the bank accounts of retirees from super, which is $5 billion less than the age pension. So far fewer people with far less money each year. If we had instead put an extra $40billion into these super annuents retirement accounts through the age pension, it might only cost us a couple of billion extra, right?
