Alexander hamilton, though not the abolitionist that the musical depicts him as being, was somewhat anti slavery. Had a there been a harder push on some of these issues by northerners who cared more about it, its conceivable that they might have made a bit more progress. But it's important to remember that abolitionism, as it came to be known in the first haf of the nineteenth century, was even more peripheral to the life of white northerners in the eighteenth century.
