There's some evidence. It's very hard to study this in the lab because you don't really get the ethics to do this very easily. Of course, you can't time these things. What you tend to see is there is this burst of activity in the brain as death approaches a kind of last hurrah of brain activity. And the experiential flip side of that may well be what a near death experiences are.
