The Origin of the Indo European Word for Sky or Shine
The original indo european word for sky was something like de. This word also meant to shine, like sunshine. So it came to be associated with the concept of a day. It produced the latin word dpater, which became j Jupiter in late latin and then jupiter in early french. And we see that word in modern english in words borrowed from latin - such as deity and divine.
