The Importance of Knowing All of One's Names

In Sumerian theology, it was believed that knowing all of one's names meant you could exert power over that person. The Mesopotamian god of creation, Marduk and also the god of the city of Babylon was said to have over 50 names because no one could know his true name. It would be a lot of trial and error, I think, if you wanted to really gain some control over him.
