Percy and Mary aren't with Jane anymore. Instead, they're with Jane's sister, another friend of Mary's named Claire Claremont. They join her for a diversion from their plan trip to Italy to Switzerland so they can all hang out together. Shelley himself would write a preface to Frankenstein when the book is published a couple of years later.
