Most people are having a hard time, including in China, to understand what Beijing has been doing and how those decisions are being made. While people are generally opposed to Russia's invasion, I think some people are worried about the specter of a nuclear escalation as Zelensky has warned. With the prospect of this war escalating to bring in other countries and then having China siding with Russia because it's been framed as a war against the West, sounds terrifying, frankly. As a child of the 1980s, having spent a whole decade worrying about old men in the US and the USSR firing nukes at each other, it is a terrifying prospect.
