Should Democrats Push for a Marriage Civil Rights Amendment?

With gay marriage possibly next on the chopping block, should democrats try to push for a marriage civil rights amendment? i'm worried that polarization is now swallowing all o our institutions, even the ones that held out. abortion is an issue where it hasn't changed a ton overtime. It's gotten just a teeny, teeny little bit more towards pro pro choice but it's really, it's a small movement.
