Gradwell's First Deed Is to Feed the Dog Something
His feeling is very specifically a sort of described in terms that we would associate with Western psychology. He feels depression, but maybe he also feels compassion. It's an act of hospitality or generosity. And it's also a sign of a kind of awakening in him, which is that even though he's feeling depressed, his humanity has been awakened.
