The Rise and Fall of Merlin
In Merlin's adoption in Italy, they really emphasized and built up his role as a prophet. The first Italian adaptation that we have of a Merlin story is called Le Porphyse de Merlant. It was written in French, but it was written in Venice in around the sort of 1270s. So 50 years or so after the French Arthurian romances were written.
