The Storytelling Facility Leads Us Astray
At the root of storytelling is causation. And that's the belief that David Lagnardo took with him into the Sally Clark trial in 1999. He had huge experience of what is fortunately a very, very small part of human activity. But unfortunately, that was just such a small subset of what can happen. So I think that in his case, the storytelling facility did lead him and us astray. You might remember the Randonautica app, sending random teenagers to grisly crime scenes. What on earth has that got to do with Sally Clark?
