The Future of Desalination
The club of what we call the desalters is getting bigger every year, says Nizah Kamori. There are over 100 desalination plants on the drawing boards in U.S., she adds. But it's expensive and uses a lot of energy, so only useful for coastal areas or urban areas - no use for agriculture. "It will not be the only source of extra water, but it will be definitely one of the alternative sources of water," said Ms Kamori.
