Andi: Why did we spend billions of dollars like identifying these people by, like looking at prescription monordat bases and all this kind of thing? But do absolutely nothing other than throw them out of the medical system when we identified them, right? Yes. I don't think it's necessarily done out of malice. It's done out of complete ino, a complete ignorance of what actually works. We've made doctors terrify yes to prescribe opioids,. And even we're just torturing dying people.

Maia Szalavitz is an American reporter and New York Times best-selling author who has focused much of her work on the topic of addiction. She has won awards from the National Institute on Drug Abuse, the Drug Policy Alliance, the American Psychological Association and the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology for her 30 years of groundbreaking writing on addiction, drug policy and neuroscience.
