Ron DeSantis's Focus Is on the Sugar Industry
Ron DeSantis has gone after the state's sugar industry uncharacteristically for a Republican. Mike Smith: This is a pretty incredible shift for a Florida governor or any Florida politician. He says when he was in Congress he voted against those subsidies twice which normally is political suicide for a Florida leader very few have survived and lived to tell the tale. But as governor he sort of doubled down because when he ran for governor the sugar companies gave massive funding to his opponent in the primary in 2018 to try to beat him, said Smith.
