Joyce's participation in the San Francisco Jung Institute has been effectively purged from its contemporary profile. In this lecture Professor Campbell notes some of Joyce's similarities to Ovid, specifically in his Tale of Daedalus. It seems to me that the particular law of nature Stephen is attempting to change is the inescapable reality of human suffering. And Stephen suffers mightily through both portrait of the artist and Ulysses.
