"I've lived my whole life with people saying my name wrong, and I've become very comfortable with that," she says. "For us to dismiss it is to really dismiss their underlying identity." Her students write out for her phonetically how to say their names in a survey before this semester begins. She encourages organizations,. schools, and companies to take advantage of the easily available free technology which makes it completely trivial for us to be able to hear how people say their names.
