The Permian Sandstones
Geologists believe that during thea late paleozoic, which as when these sandstones were deposited, the continent were all united together in a single super continent called pangia. And so they interpret these widespread cross bedded sandstones as desert sandstones being deposited in the very hot and arid interior of this enormous super continent at the time. So basey, that's how they would so understand the data that all the world is a desert.
