Is There a Puritanism in Buddhism?
i'm not a big fan of puritanism, nor of indulgence, but i don't really think that's good for us. And so within buddhism, you either have renunciation, or you have tantra, where the principle is one of desire and pleasure being good. I found it fascinating to make a distinction between the puritan moral principles and and the sort of early buddhist moral principles because they do seem similar. But even hearing stories of folks that i know who've gone to asia to practise, there'sa real difference.
