The Virtue of Patriotism and Not Being Patriotic
The soul, the supernatural welcoming of all actually gives the church a more solid foundation on which to discuss issues of racism, slavery and that much secular thinking. The traditional position in both natural law theory and in Catholic moral theology is that a special love for one's own country isn't only not wrong but it's morally required. So patriotism is a virtue and not being patriotic is a vice - this is a standard Catholic theology.
