When Anne Whittaker was Health Secretary, I told her in the budget speech that Gordon Brown was about to cheat on the figures. She pronounced Philip Hammond is a future Chancellor of the Exchequer because he understands all this stuff. But surely, once you become Chancellor, you are really only, you are literally next door to being Prime Minister? Did it ever have a crush on mine? It was a pretty horrific role when Theresa helped it, to be honest. To be Prime Minister without a majority, trying to pull together the factions of a warring party wouldn't have been my skill set.
