The book was written in large part in 2020, during the COVID year. I think like many other people was just feeling like extremely unward and disoriented and unclear about where exactly we were going. The effort to kind of produce a coherent portrait of this ideology that I end up calling crack-up capitalism in the book was kind of a therapeutic effort on my part. So I think that one of the things we just really need right now is to keep evolving and keep mutating.
