The McDonald's Hot Coffee Case
Judith Hames, a self-proclaimed psychic was awarded close to one million dollars by a Philadelphia jury in March 1986 after she said that a cat scan at Temple University Hospital made her lose her psychic abilities. This is eight years before the McDonald's Hot Coffee case of the 1980s. All of this goes back to what was called the Tort Revolution. The Warren Court starts passing a bunch of like very arcane and weird procedural things that make it much easier to sue companies. And so as we started getting books like Silent Spring, we get unsafe at any speed.
