The Importance of Enzymes in Gut Absorption
Average epithelial cell size is between 10 to 30 micrometers in diameter. When you think of your gut, it just is like a 7-meter tube. To have those additional projections, microvilli, would just improve or increase the surface area for that absorption. And other features? Then you could have things like enzymes.
