When our emotions are engaged, we can often focus on the worst case scenario. One of the techniques that sports people do to arrest that escalation is try and find something of value that is true, win or lose. So when I find myself in a difficult, highly pressured situation, I say to myself, my parents will still love me. It suddenly gives you a kind of a bedrock of psychological assurance. And it gives me a huge amount of social confidence when I'm facing difficult situations. But honestly, I've got to tell you it helps a lot.
