The Water After the Falls

Mariah was surprised that the water that had moments before displayed such power settled so quickly back into a place of calm. The moss that covered the waterfall's rock face was slick and almost black, transformed by the water rushing over it. But on the rocks near where she stood, the moss was soft and dry, still a brilliant green. She felt a sense of peace settle into her chest and wondered if it was yet another gift from the trees. Just as their leaves revealed their true colors on this lovely fall day, Mariah too feels like her true self.
