The Preface to the Preface
There's nothing that is immediately communicated to us, right to our like brains. So he's saying that that is exactly the very nature of being human. He's not reducing everything to a textual imminence where suddenly we can just apply the tools we understand about engaging with texts to everythin else. Everything is really preface to something else. Even the big bang, as being a possible origina point, implies that there were two floating molecules or whatever, that bumped into one another.
